I am so excited to introduce you to my next interviewee. Cristina is studying interior design in Madrid, and manages to keep up a beautiful blog and flickr at the same time, lucky for me. And make sure to visit her project bueno bonito y barato, which you’ll also love. Cristina is completely charming, which you’ll see from her interview, and  makes me wish I knew more than broken Spanish so I could fully appreciate what she writes, though I completely eat up her photos. I have to say thanks to my Dad for translating this for me, and a special thanks to Cristina for sharing her inspiring insights and photos. (English first, followed by Spanish.)

Meet Cristina
My name is Cristina, though online I’m known as Superkitina. The nickname came about a few years ago during a conversation with friends when I was 15, and ever since I have used it as my name online. Now that I am 25, I continue to use that name, and although it may sound a little childish, I love it.

I’m currently an interior design student. Before I got into interior design, I was studying technical architecture, but I didn’t stay with it because I realized it was not what I wanted to do. I left it all for design, which is what I always wanted to do.
Besides school, I also work (one has to earn a living ; ). So that means, while in school, I don’t have a lot of time for hobbies, which I have a lot of, including my blog and my flickr. I am always trying new things.  I worked for a while stocking shelves at a gift store here in Madrid. I also work with a children’s music theater group where I teach dance to 8 to 15-year-olds.

I love photography (even though I don’t know much about it, I am teaching myself), crafts, sewing, and drawing… and thanks to those hobbies, my blog was born, with the intent to share with people what I do, what I love to do, and in the end, who I am, and most of all, with the hope of finding what I can learn from others.

A short while ago I started a new project with my sister that we call good beautiful and cheap (bueno bonito y barato), where we offer tutorials on crafts, party ideas, costumes, and a lot more. It is a lot of fun because in our family we have always been surrounded by those things: costumes and craft-filled afternoons…simply put, we teach what we have done our entire lives.

I still have a year left in school, but when I am done with school, I hope to use some of my hobbies in my business, which I suppose we would all love to do ; )

I can’t claim to be an expert in any thing in particular, because I love to do all things: I work with polymer clay (fimo), I love to sew, I love to draw, and I always love to learn new things. Next I want to learn to crochet, knit, and cook! I want to learn to cook!

And now that we’re acquainted
THE PERFECT GIFT: It’s difficult to say if I’ve ever given the perfect gift, but I don’t think that the perfect gift is the most expensive or the prettiest gift, but one given with special thought or feeling: A signed card, a post card from a beautiful place that arrived in your mail box, a note inside a book…

When someone gives something and takes the time to think about the other person, or writes a few special words; that makes it a perfect gift.

I think that everyone should think about the other person before giving a gift and not just buy something because it is pretty or because the giver likes it. We need to put that special thought or feeling into gift-giving.

I am not sure that it was the perfect gift, but there is one gift I know I loved making and my boyfriend liked when I gave it to him.

We had been together for two years last year, and I didn’t have much money for a gift. So trying to come up with something special, I gave him a box with a road map, a swimsuit, and a hand-made book that I put together myself. The book was a manual explaining how use the box’s contents. It was a plan for a summer car trip all along the south coast of Spain. Each page had a piece of the map with pictures of places that we could visit, pictures of ourselves, and phrases of things that we could do, such as swim in the sea or walk on the sand…things like that. I believe it was the most perfect gift that I have given.

A FAVORITE PLACE TO SHOP FOR GIFTS: I truly don’t have one. I like to browse through everything to find special details. Whenever I need a gift, I first think of what I would like to give and then I go search for it wherever I may find it. It is hard at times, but this way you make the gift that much more special, and if you are able to personalize it, even better.

A FAVORITE GO-TO GIFT: When I am able and I have time, I prefer to give something hand-made by me. I believe that getting a hand-made gift—not store bought—is very special and unique.

Conocer a Cristina
Me llamo Cristina aunque en la red se me conoce como Superkitina. Ese Nick surgió hace años durante una charla con mis amigas cuando teníamos 15 años, y desde entonces siempre lo he usado en internet. Ahora que tengo 25 años sigo usando ese nombre, que aunque suene infantil, a mí me encanta. ; )

En la actualidad soy estudiante de interiorismo o diseño de interiores. Antes de empezar a estudiar diseño estudie arquitectura técnica, pero no llegue a terminar los estudios porque me di cuenta de que aquello no era lo mío. Deje todo por estudiar diseño, que es realmente lo que siempre he querido.

Además de los estudios también trabajo (hay que ganarse la vida ; ) Así que durante el curso no me queda demasiado tiempo para dedicarme a mis hobbies, que tengo muchos (entre los que está mi blog y mi flickr). Siempre estoy probando cosas nuevas.

He trabajado un tiempo de escaparatista en una tienda de regalos aquí en Madrid,y participo en un grupo de teatro musical infantil donde enseño a bailar a niños de 8 a 15 años. Es muy divertido! Pero también agotador.

Me encanta la fotografía (aunque no se mucho, pero intento aprender por mi misma), las manualidades, la costura, dibujar….y gracias a esos hobbies nació mi blog, con la intención de compartir lo que hago con el resto de la gente, lo que me gusta, al fin y al cabo, lo que soy, y sobre todo de aprender de los demás.

Hace poco también empecé un nuevo proyecto que se llama bueno bonito y barato junto a mi hermana, en el que ofrecemos tutoriales de manualidades, ideas para fiestas, disfraces y mucho más. Es muy divertido porque en mi familia siempre hemos estado rodeados de esas cosas, de disfraces, de tardes de manualidades… así que simplemente enseñamos lo que hemos hecho toda la vida.

Aun me queda un año de mis estudios, pero cuando termine espero poder convertir alguno de mis hobbies en mi negocio, que supongo que es lo que a todos nos gustaría ; )

No puedo decir que sea experta en nada, porque siempre quiero hacerlo todo: trabajo con arcilla polimérica (fimo), me gusta coser, me gusta dibujar, y siempre quiero aprender cosas nuevas. Lo próximo que quiero probar es el crochet, hacer punto (kniting), y cocinar! Quiero aprender a cocinar!

y ahora que estamos familiarizados
Que es EL REGALO PERFECTO: Es una pregunta complicada de responder, pero creo que el regalo perfecto no es el más caro, o el más bonito, sino aquel que tiene un sentido: Una tarjeta firmada, una postal de algún sitio bonito recibida en tu buzón, una nota dentro de un libro……..

Cuando alguien regala algo y dedica su tiempo en pensar en la otra persona, o en dedicarle unas palabras hace que ese regalo sea el regalo perfecto.

Creo que todo el mundo debería pensar en la otra persona antes de regalar, y no comprar algo solo porque sea bonito o porque te guste a ti. Darle un sentido a regalar.

No sé si fue el regalo perfecto, pero sé que me encantó prepararlo y sé que a mi chico le gusto. El año pasado hacia 2 años que estábamos juntos, y yo no tenía mucho dinero para gastar en su regalo. Así que pensando en algo especial, le regale una caja que contenía un mapa de carreteras, un bañador, y un libro hecho a mano por mí. En el libro consistía en un manual de instrucciones para saber cómo utilizar lo que la caja contenía. En realidad era toda una ruta para hacer en coche a lo largo de la costa sur de España en verano. Cada página tenía un trozo del mapa, con fotos de los sitios que podíamos visitar, fotos nuestras, y frases con cosas que podríamos hacer, como bañarnos en el agua del mar, o pasear por la arena…. Cosas así.

Creo que ha sido el regalo más perfecto que he hecho.

UNA TIENDA FAVORITA PARA COMPRAR REGALOS: La verdad es que no tengo ninguna. Me gusta curiosearlo todo para encontrar detalles especiales.

Cada vez que compro un regalo pienso primero en lo que quiero y luego me dedico a intentar encontrarlo en alguna parte. Es difícil, pero consigues que tu regalo sea algo mas especial, y si además puedes personalizarlo, mucho mejor.

REGALO FAVORITO QUE SIEMPRE PUEDE LLEVAR PARA CIERTA OCASIONES: Cuando puedo y tengo tiempo, me gusta regalar algo hecho a mano por mí. Creo que recibir algo hecho a mano y no comprado es algo muy especial, además de único.
