JUST ADD WATER CARDS & FREE PRINTABLE
Do you remember having a just-add-water book as a child? They were the best. Sherry (I owe you, girlie, because I just love this idea) has been doodling up some just-add-water paint books to give to some little ones as Christmas gifts. She pointed me to the tutorial and printables here. They’re just made with a set of watercolor pencils on watercolor paper.
Wouldn’t this also work as the perfect surprise to tuck inside a child’s birthday card?

And while we’re on the topic of mailable surprises. Here is a card I made a while back for my niece. A little peek-a-boo accordion card that mails nicely with a small stuffed-animal friend or finger puppet. I’ll include it here for download in case you find occasion to use it.
Peek-a-boo accordian card (569)
You’ll just need to cut, fold, and glue. I cut out the circles with a craft knife. I also opted to paint a light water color wash over each page of the card, then I set it under a book when almost dry so it would end up flat.

I just loved those paint with water books. I’ve looked for them for my kids and can’t find them anymore. What a simple idea to use watercolor pencils and make your own! I’m having one of those head slapping moments here…. why didn’t I think of that?

I’ve marked and filed this page under my “stocking stuffer” file. My children are going to love these!

I apologize for not sending images yet. Things have been crazy —- but in the crazy busy-ness of the work day, I have found time [at my break] to doodle a few more pages. I plan to make these for nieces and nephews and my kiddos — about 10 in all.
Fun.

We STILL use those just-add-water paint books all of the time. My 3-year-old loves them! :)
